We asked people who draw on care and support and people who work in it, ‘What language would you like to hear more of in care and support?’. They generously shared their feelings and experiences.
Finding the right words matters. Language has the power to build understanding and trust, lifting people up and offering hope and possibility. However it can also create confusion, exclude people, undermine dignity, and bring people down. By using names instead of labels, everyday words instead of jargon, and language filled with love, hope and joy, we can show people that they matter.
