New report on paying speakers with lived experience

Published: 4 Mar, 2025

The voices of people who draw on care and support are vital in shaping social care. Their insights bring depth, challenge assumptions, and help create care and support that works for everyone. Yet, too often, they are missing from key events.Fair payment and recognition are crucial to making participation possible, but many event organisers often struggle with uncertainty around tax, benefits, and payment options.

Without clear guidance, some avoid payment altogether, meaning only those who can afford to contribute for free get heard. This report explores these challenges and provides practical options for recognising and rewarding speakers fairly. It builds on the first phase of this work with Social Care Future, where we gathered lived experiences, and developed a practical guide to support event organisers. If you want to ensure fair and inclusive participation in your events, this is essential reading.

Explore this new report by visiting our Resource Library – and please share it with anybody you know who is involved in organising events. Together, we can make sure everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
