Coming soon: New learning resources for making Direct Payments work

Published: 12 Mar, 2025

Direct Payments can be life-changing, giving people greater choice, flexibility, and control over their care and support. But we know that social work teams often face challenges in making them work well in practice.

That’s why we’ve created a new free learning resource designed with social workers and for social workers—to help build confidence in offering Direct Payments and better embedding them in practice.

These resources have been created by Think Local Act Personal in collaboration with the South West Direct Payments Network, the National Co-production Advisory Group, and Independent Living Group.

What’s included in the new resources?

Launching on 9th April 2025, these bite-sized, practical learning tools will include:

  • Short videos explaining key Direct Payments topics
  • Interactive quizzes to test knowledge and reflect on learning
  • Discussion questions to explore how Direct Payments work in your local area
  • Linked resources to support embedding good practice

These resources are designed for social work teams, social care practitioners, and local authority staff involved in Direct Payments—whether you’re new to the subject or want to build on your existing knowledge.

Join our free ‘Lunch & Learn’ webinar on 9th April

To mark the launch of these resources, we’re hosting a Lunch & Learn webinar on Wednesday 9th April, 12:30 – 1:30 PM (UK time).

This interactive session will give you a first look at the resources and feature insights from social work practitioners and people with lived experience on how Direct Payments can work well.

📅 Date: Wednesday 9th April 2025

⏰ Time: 12:30 – 1:30 PM
