Definition
When a person pays for their own care and support and does not receive financial help from their local council.
People with capital worth more than the upper capital limit of £23,250 are referred to as ‘self-funders’. They are entitled to a needs assessment, and can ask their local council to arrange care and support for them, but they will have to pay the full cost of their care and support until their capital falls below the upper limit.
