Definition
An outcome is something that a person, team, service or organisation would like to achieve or something they want to happen.
The main purpose of adult social care is to help people to achieve the outcomes that matter to them in their life.
Two different types of outcomes are described in the Care Act 2014 guidance.
‘Desired outcomes’ are defined by the person. They are the things people want to achieve in their day-to-day life.
‘Specified outcomes’ are defined by the eligibility regulations. They are the things that local councils must consider to determine whether a person has eligible needs for care and support.
