Definition
A term sometimes used to described disabled people.
The bigger picture
Differently abled is a meaningless phrase as everyone has different abilities. It does not acknowledge that people are disabled by barriers in society.
The term is a euphemism. People may use the term because they think it is more positive than the word ‘disabled’. But a euphemism is a word or phrase people use to avoid saying something they think is unpleasant or offensive, so using this euphemistic term implies ‘disabled’ is an insulting word, which it isn’t.
