An assessment completed by a local council, or by an organisation like a carers centre on behalf of the council, to understand the support an unpaid carer might require.
The assessment should seek to understand the carer’s needs for support, if the carer can – and wants to – continue in the caring role, and what the carer wants to achieve in their daily life.
The law (Care Act 2014) says that local councils must undertake an assessment for any carer if it appears that the carer may have require some support, whether currently or in the future.
