Social workers, support organisations and others working directly with people and families should be made aware of people’s rights and should change their practice to make these rights real.
Contracting confusion
The critical distinction in contracting here is that the precise details of support are agreed between the individual, their family and the person or organisation managing the personal budget – or as it’s sometimes known – the Individual Service Fund (Smith & Brown, 2017). Instead of treating care and support as something that is xed by a contract or by a care plan, the budget is treated as xed and then people work together to get the best value from the budget, the Individual Service Fund.
