Sharing good practice in direct payment workshops

Disabled peoples' user led organisations are specialists when it comes to offering peer support. The process allows participants to share their knowledge and experience with people less familiar with the subject. At the same time everyone involved in peer support can experience increased confidence as they develop their expertise and learn to take more control of their lives.

Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living have produced an evaluation report about a peer support training programme for people new to direct payments.

Their report found that the method was a productive alternative to supporting people in a one-to-one setting. The findings will be useful for others seeking ways of supporting disabled people learn a new role.
