Health and social care integration

The TLAP team will be running a session on 'Supporting health and social care integration through personal budgets'. Personal budgets are now well established in social care and following a successful pilot are now being offered to some groups of people using health care. TLAP is co-ordinating an initiative with the NHS Confederation and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) to explore the potential of personal budgets for people with both health and social care needs. This session will share the opportunities and benefits of joint personal budgets for people, including:

  • Transferring the lessons learnt from social care to health
  • Making the case for change
  • The practical challenges faced.

Speakers at the session include TLAP Director Sam Bennett, Kate Ravenscroft (NHS Confederation), Zoe Porter (NHS England) and Trish Kearney (SCIE)

Pam Quick will also be speaking at the session, Pam uses a personal health budget and is a member of the Personal Health Budget Peer Support Network. Pam will discuss some of the challenges she has faced and the opportunities for professionals tasked with implementing personal health budgets.

Refreshing the commitment to personalised care and support

The TLAP team are coordinating a conference session which will address the future of personalised care and support. It has been five years the since start of personalisation policy and there is now significant learning, research and experience to demonstrate both the sense of the possibilities that can be achieved, but also the risks.

A recent "Personalisation Summit" hosted by Care Services Minister Norman Lamb brought key groups in health and care together to review progress to date. The summit looked beyond the numbers with a strong focus on outcomes for people and considered key challenges in the context of developing policy and legislation and difficult financial position.

The session will provide an update from the Personalisation Summit including:

  • An overview of progress made
  • Areas for improvement
  • Key strategies
  • Refreshing the TLAP partnership agreement
  • How ADASS, the Department of Health and TLAP will be supporting further improvements in the delivery of care and support.

The session speakers include TLAP's co-Chair Clenton Farquharson, TLAP Driector Sam Bennett, Martin Farran (Director of Adults Services, Barnsley), Alex Fox (Care Providers Alliance) and Jon Rouse (Department of Health).
