The UK's National institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has appointed two new non-executive directors with backgrounds in health and social care. Bill Mumford is chief executive of the charity MacIntyre, which supports children and adults with learning disabilities, he is also a TLAP board member.

His appointment is the first time a non-executive director has been appointed from a social care background, reflecting the expansion of NICE's remit to include social care from April this year. "I am delighted to be joining the board of NICE at this strategically important time as it seeks to build up its knowledge and expertise of social care and extends its excellent reputation to new stakeholders," said Mumford.

His fellow new appointee is Professor Finbarr Martin, who is a consultant in general and geriatric medicine at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and honorary professor of medical gerontology at Kings College London.
