Local authority support for people who employ personal assistants

Added on

Skills for Care have published a report into what local authorities across England are doing to support the 100,000 people who employ personal assistants.

Better understanding of levels of support for individual employers and their personal assistants presents the findings of research carried out by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, Learn to Care and Skills for Care.

This is the second year the research has been undertaken and highlights the need for a long-term commitment both to enable individual employers to be good employers, supported by local authorities and other organisations, and also to help the 243,000 personal assistants (PAs) as employees through independent information, advice, guidance and peer support.

The report forms part of the implementation of the Department of Health's Working for Personalised Care: A framework for supporting personal assistants working in adult social care (The Personal Assistants' (PA) Framework, DH 2011).
