Building Community Capacity Provider workshops

Added on

TLAP are delighted to invite you to one of two workshops for providers on Building Community Capacity taking place on:

4 July 2013, in the North West, venue tbc. 10-4
26 September, London, venue tbc, 10-4

The aims of the workshop are:
• To raise awareness of the importance of building community capacity and share the business case for such an approach, including evidence and best practice
• To share and disseminate the tools and materials that have been produced by TLAP to help organisations build community capacity
• To model useful methods of engaging people and communities in building community capacity and what role providers can play in driving the agenda
• To support providers to take next steps in building community capacity and to embed the principles in day-to-day practice.

The workshop will include:
• Explanation of the concepts of community capacity, social capital and what it means for providers
• Introduction to appreciative Inquiry and the power of storytelling in engaging all
• Different ways of using the tools including 'Are We There Yet?' developed by TLAP to describe what good would look like in building community capacity and 'Does it Work' - a guide to evaluating for community capacity
• Action planning and strategy development around issues that matter to participants.
We invite providers of all sizes to bring teams of up to 4 people to the workshop. This will enable teams to plan together. It will also ensure you won't miss out on any of the content as we will be breaking into smaller action groups during the day. Your teams need to include people who are well-placed to drive forward community capacity building in your organisation and organisational change. At least one of your team must be someone who has experience of using your services or a carer or local citizen. Suggestions of other people you might bring include:

• Operational and strategic managers at different levels
• Training/HR managers
• Neighbourhood coordinators/community development workers
• Board members
• People from your partner organisations - including health and housing providers and community organisations.

Places are limited so please register your interest by emailing the form below to Corinne.moutou@scie.org.uk. If we are oversubscribed we will select participants based on their ability and commitment to implement the learning and whether a service user/carer is included in the team.
